The value of getting a Master's degree

Master’s degrees in our country are not really common as they are not very popular in here. The main reason why it is this way is probably because most of the people in our country feel satisfied just with a graduate degree. However, we constantly ask ourselves, as undergraduate students, are master degrees really important? Why is it necessary to have a master degree? From my perspective, I believe that Master’s degrees are really important; therefore, to support my answer I will provide some evidence of my assertion and also I will provide some useful information about Master’s degrees in our country.
To start with, in our country master degrees are not something that we face in our daily life. In fact, I just got to know people with a Master’s degree just when I entered this major four years ago, before that I never met someone holding one. In my opinion, Master’s degrees are essential for your profession, especially if you are interested in specialize your profession in one specific area. To illustrate this, in our major, if you are interested in one subject which could be grammar or linguistic, with a Master’s degree you would have the chance to specialize in that subject and in that way you would be able to teach what you like. Additionally, I believe that having a Master’s degree helps you to have more money; with it you could definitely increase your salary and you will have the chance to be a different teacher, a teacher that would not be discriminated for earning a small amount of money, a teacher that would receive an amount of money which is equivalent to all the hard work they perform everyday in the classroom. Thus, from my point of view having a Master’s degree is amazingly important.

Another important fact that should be mentioned is that in our country little people hold a Master’s degree; probably it is because they are not really needed in here. For example, in other countries if you want to be the principal of a school you should hold a Master’s degree, and even sometimes a PhD is required too. But in our country it is not this way, for instance if you are interested in being the principal of the school you just have to be part of a contest and if you fulfill some requirements (in which a PhD or a Mater’s degree are not part of them) you have all the chances to be the principal. In my opinion, this should be changed because our country has a huge lack of good principals, and it is widely known that the success of a school is guarantied not only with good students or good teachers, but also with good principal.

Finally, I certainly believe that having a Master’s degree is really important for several reasons, first, because you become a better professional, second because your salary is better and finally, because you would definitely be recognized for being one of the few people in our country for holding a Master’s degree.
